| An magnificent and extremely rare broadside promoting this important Hudson River city, at the time one of the most prosperous in the United States.
The broadside comprises a central street plan of Troy printed in blue, flanked at top and bottom by a city business directory, with the whole surrounded by a heavy black border. As befits a major manufacturing center a wide range of businesses are listed, from the American Popular Life Insurance Company to Pardon S. Crandall’s Mill Stone Manufactory to E. Roussel, Dealer in Artificial Hair and Wig Maker. Several of the directory entries feature wood-engraved illustrations, including a small view of Emery & Son’s Albany Agricultural Works. This writer has been unable to either locate any references to the broadside nor any information as to the identity of publisher James H. Kelly, who is not listed in the directory. References Not in OCLC, Phillips, or Rumsey. | |
