Collection development

Boston Rare Maps works with map collectors to identify opportunities to enrich their collection, either through lateral extension or deeper forays into specific areas of interest. For those new to the field, we assist in developing themes for collections and provide support for the research and acquisition process.

Research

Boston Rare Maps provides research services as well as full documentation, whether for insurance purposes, as a prelude to dispersal, or simply to satisfy a client’s curiosity. With our own research library as well as access to the libraries at Harvard, the Massachusetts Historical Society, and other superb institutions, we have at our disposal extensive cartographic collections and cartobibliographic resources.

If you are seeking an item not currently in stock, we will be pleased to help you locate it or identify an appropriate alternative. Once located, we will authenticate the map, assess its condition, arrange for purchase, and provide you with a full written description of the map and its historical and cartographical significance.
